We are so very happy to report that Heppie, our 3 legged wonder, has found her forever home! She has been on quite the journey in her 3 short years. Heppie was rescued from deplorable living conditions in Virginia in January 2010. She was found chained outside in 10 inches of snow, with a dog house she could not get into, and an empty food and water bowl. There were many dogs at the residence, which was indicative of a backyard breeder. It was learned that Heppie had lost a leg earlier in life after getting tangled in wire. Heppie had lived in multiple homes prior to being rescued by Wolf Creek.
Wolf Creek has always held the strong belief that there is a home out there for every dog. Sydney found her forever home and we knew Heppie would as well. However, finding homes for dogs with disabilities is not without its challenges. People often believe that dogs with three legs may have too many limitations.... not true! "Tripawd" dogs can do just about everything that 4 legged dogs can ... and sometimes better! To enhance our efforts in finding a forever home for Heppie, Wolf Creek networked with several groups to increase her chances of finding the perfect home. She was also highlighted on Pets With Disabilities and TriPawds. Within two days of being featured on Disabled Animal, we received an adoption application from the Shaffer family of Florida. The Shaffer family was quite familiar with pet disabilities, as they were already the proud parents of a Vizsla amputee, Three Leg Fred!
Heppie was adopted by Andrea & Jim Shaffer two weeks before Christmas and is loving the warm, tropical weather of Florida. Heppie and Fred became fast friends and it was clear to all that Heppie was finally home. Heppie wants to thank all the special people that she's gotten to know since being rescued in Virginia. There have been many angels along the way.... you all know who you are! A very special thank you goes to the McGlothlin family and Sue Glidewell, both of whom live in Virginia, and provided much love and care to Heppie after she was rescued... we cannot thank you enough.
