Raw diet

Postby jguinn » May 24th, 2009, 11:46 am

Anyone else feeding their Weimaraner a full or partial raw diet? Stella has extreme sensitivities to most foods and we've had to change foods several times over the past five years. Canidae's Lamb & Rice formula worked well for her for nearly two years, but she eventually developed an intolerance to it late last year. Since that time, I've been feeding her a mix of (prescription) hypoallergenic soy protein kibble and Taste of the Wild salmon kibble. She's never been terribly excited by either of them and the GI symptoms were still not completely resolved.

Recently I picked up a package of the Primal raw chicken mix patties and have been slowly adding those into her diet, replacing the prescription kibble. It's been nearly a week and Stella is doing terrific with this food! She actually "asks" me for food now... well, actually, it's more of a very demanding bark, but I definitely know that she's ready to eat. She has more energy and also doesn't seem to have any problems at all with digesting the food.

I'm hopeful that she will continue to tolerate the raw diet well. I will probably continue to feed her a mix of primarily the raw formula and some of the salmon kibble. Wish us luck!

Actually what food is given is important but important is to maintain a regularity in timing of eating. It has a great influence on the health. So try not to change the usual eating schedule unless any uncertainty. Moreover when she likes to eat now don't overfeed her.
