About Wolf Creek Weimaraner Rescue

Wolf Creek Weimaraner is a group of dedicated volunteers who know and love the breed. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Our members consist of folks who have had weims for many years and those who are new to the breed. Wolf Creek has been rescueing Weims for over 8 years. We have taken in and placed over 250 dogs.
Each year we place 50 -60 dogs. Each year the number goes up.

You may ask..."Why do we get so many weims?"

Weimaraners have become a popular breed. Everyone wants one, but not everyone is prepared for one. Inadequate research on the breed, lack of training, lifestyle changes and financial burden are the most common reasons we see the number of weims in our program. The biggest battle we in rescue face is the overwhelming numbers of "backyard breeders" in our region and all over the country. People who think they know weims but do not and are in it for a quick buck. These breeders breed their dogs several times a year with no caution to health issues, or temperment issues. They do not educate their buyers and certainly do not have the welfare of the breed in mind. Most backyard breeders have shoddy and bare minimal quarters for the dogs they are cranking money out of, many are inbred and have health issues that are passed along from generation to generation. People who buy these dogs then decide they must breed and the cycle carries on.

We have taken in more puppies under the age of 6 months in the last 2 years than we ever saw several years ago.
ITs sad when we are called to get a 14 week old puppy out of the shelter. Or we find a breeder who cant care for the dogs they bred and the dogs are kept in nasty conditions.

We support ETHICAL breeding if done right and buyers are educated and health guarantees are honored and good stock used.

Our members and volunteers give up many hours of time to do the work neccessary to run this organization and care for all the weims that come into our program. We open our hearts and homes to these wonderful dogs. Often times the job is very hard and many times very sad. But on the other side too, there are rewards that words cannot explain. To be able to be just a small part of a wayward weim's life and to see that weim go on to thrive in its new home and to see how happy they can make the new owner is priceless. That is why we do this. Loving and caring for a dog that has been beaten, abused, abandoned and severly neglected, captures a spot in our hearts and leaves a mark on us forever.

We must trust ourselves and listen to our canine friends when deciding which home is right for them. We must be able to place each dog in loving hands and know that we have done everything in our power to give the dog the chance it deserves. We must also realize we cannot save them all. Our emphasis is to provide the best care possible and to find those loving forever homes.

Rescue is extremely time consuming and very costly. We are seeing more dogs that need our help every year. Our resources and manpower often times become very stretched. We are always looking for dedicated folks to join our efforts to help our Gray Ghosts. Please contact us If interested.

Funding: WCWR is funded by adoption fees, fundraising activities and private donations. We are always looking for new ways to raise funds to keep our efforts going. We also are always looking for services to be donated relating to our cause.

How Much Does It Cost Per Dog?

The average time a weimaraner stays in our program is generally 4-6 months. Some have been with us up to and over a year. On average each dog we take in costs the rescue between $800 and $1,500 before they are adopted. Some dogs even cost the rescue over $2,000.

Why?

We have limited number of foster homes, so we must board at local kennels. Wolf Creek spends over $20,000 per year in boarding costs.

We spend over $20,000 in medical costs as well with over $10,000 in food and supplies. It takes thousands more to operate the organization and to cover fundraising expenses.
